How did 2018 close and how did 2019 start for you? For me the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 taught me some hard but necessary lessons. I’m all about being open and honest with you. Life kicked my butt and forced me to slow down.

December started with a move, followed by two more. I couldn’t find my groove – the flow – anymore. For a while I tried to force myself to keep creating but nothing meaningful come out of my hands. I was out of alignment and refused to ‘give in’. But that was exactly what I did in the end. I put all of my ideas down and took a break. I didn’t put out any new content because I had to.

Rest & Reset

I took a step back and reevaluated my Why and my desires. Why did I start Nurture Play Love? What direction do I see it go? The hardest part of all of this? Not acting upon these flashes of inspiration. The ideas had to grow first before I could work them out.

In January I felt refreshed and ready for the year ahead. Instead of a flying start, I had to slow down even more. We received news that my sweet grandma wasn’t doing well and before we knew it, she peacefully passed surrounded by family. She had a beautiful life but saying goodbye is always hard.

The turbulence didn’t end there because at the same time my sister-in-law was in the hospital. Just 3 hours after the passing of my grandmother we welcome a new soul into our family. A healthy baby boy was born.
Life and death. New beginnings and endings right next to each other.

So I rested more. I sat with the grief. I let the emotions take their course. Sadness, happiness, emptiness, gratefulness. The whole spectrum of emotions passed through me. Sometimes in matters of minutes I was pulled from one end to the other.

The Journey of Surrender

I had no choice but to surrender to all these life events. I could fight it, work and push my emotions away. You know what, I’ve done that for far too long. I feel my feelings and allow my thought to be there.

When was the last time you observed your emotions without trying to change them? When was the last time you didn’t push through and forgave yourself for the place you’re at?

If you’re curious about how to go on this journey of surrender, listen to this week’s podcast. After taking that hiatus I was inspired to take you on my journey and share my tips and tricks to help you move through this place of resistance against rest. We all need a break and we can all use some support while we’re taking it!

After listening, let me know how you are taking that time for yourself in the comments!
